Mercedes-Benz GLC wins Motor Trend´s 2017 SUV of the Year Award

2016-GLC-SUV-GALLERY-008-GOE-D

The Mercedes-Benz GLC won Motor Trend's 2017 SUV of the Year Award. Judged by 11 Motor Trend editors, writers, and testers in an array of categories that included advancement in design, engineering excellence, performance of intended functions, safety and value, the Mercedes-Benz GLC defeated a competitive field of 19 contenders for this award. Previously, the Mercedes-Benz GL had won the Motor Trend SUV of the Year Award in 2007 and 2013.

"The GLK, our original midsize SUV, was one of the most popular models in our SUV lineup. The GLC, our second-generation midsize SUV, has built on the sales success of the GLK while taking a huge leap forward in terms of safety, technology and design," said Bernie Glaser, General Manager of Product Management, MBUSA. "Winning Motor Trend's SUV of the Year award is a testament to all the hard work that designers, engineers and product management have put into the new GLC; congrats to the whole Mercedes-Benz team."

On a technical level, the Mercedes GLC sets new benchmarks for ride, handling, safety technology and comfort and offers off-road capabilities. Though larger than the GLK, the GLC is also lighter. A turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine is teamed with a 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission improved performance and efficiency. The GLC offers 4MATIC all-wheel drive for outstanding agility and traction on a variety of road surfaces.

The GLC's longer wheelbase and vehicle length result in substantially more interior space for occupants and luggage. The GLC's dashboard and center console showcase flowing lines and a large, one-piece panel that elegantly sweeps from the center air vents to the armrest. These clear-cut lines create a feeling of open space and establish a purist, modern vibe. The optional large panoramic glass roof further enhances the light and airy feel inside.

First Gear - 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE350 - Review and Test Drive

Get a closer look at a 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE350 with Exterior Sport and Night Packages. I explore the exterior and interior of the vehicle before taking it for a brief test drive. What makes our First Gear series different from some other review shows is that I'm not a "car guy" or a salesman. I just like to push buttons and search for secret compartments to see what I can discover. You'll see me give my initial impressions of each vehicle, and follow up with any questions to a Smail sales representative.

This was a very fun vehicle to review, a perfect example of one of those vehicles with SO MANY features that we could have had an hour-long video and still not have enough time to cover everything. I was especially excited to try out the massage chairs! How many vehicles have you been in that give you a massage during your drive?! That's one of those elements of luxury that would make me actually look forward to a bumper-to-bumper morning commute!

If you want more information about our available GLE350 at Smail, visit our website here. And don't forget to check out this playlist of all of our First Gear episodes.

First Gear - 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 - Review and Test Drive

For this episode of First Gear, I got a chance to explore and test drive the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC300. Having recently reviewed the 2016 CLA250, I was much more comfortable and familiar with going through this vehicle.

Before checking out the interior, I do a lap around the GLC300 and get my initial reactions to the style and design of the exterior of the vehicle. I'm always looking at the small details, and on this GLC300 I'm really impressed by the chrome accents used around the windows and doors, and especially on the door handles.

There are plenty of features inside that make this GLC300 fun to drive. The sunroof is massive, the technology available is incredible, and the cargo space is very impressive. There's a moment in the video where I discover how to fold down the back seats with just a touch of a button. Let's just say it surprised me.

During the test drive, I demonstrate the blind spot monitoring and warning. I also cycle through the different driving modes like Eco and Sport to see how each mode drives differently. I use the rearview camera to help back up while parking, and I also try out the Eco Start/Stop technology where the engine stops running instead of idling at times like extended red lights.

First Gear - 2016 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 Review and Test Drive

Here is our latest episode of First Gear, where I got the chance to review and test drive a 2016 Mercedes-Benz CLA250.

This one made me a little nervous, to be honest, since before this day I had never even stepped foot into a Mercedes-Benz vehicle, let alone drive one around town. That also meant that many of the features and controls were very different than what I was used to.

I like to push all the buttons to see what they do, to me it's the little details that are important. I want to know more about the features that I'm going to encounter everyday like the cupholders, phone chargers, and seat controls. And, of course, there's my favorite: secret compartments!

This CLA250 is loaded with some things that I've never seen before, like the emergency release button in the trunk. (And yes, of course I had to crawl into and lock myself into the trunk to test that one out.) I got to test out the sunroof, discover a secret door between the back seat and the trunk, and found some helpful lights underneath the seats.

During the test drive, I experimented with the different driving modes, Comfort, Sport, etc. and the blindspot monitoring. When I got back to the dealership, I asked a few questions to the salesman which he was able to answer for me.

If you'd like to take this CLA250 for a test drive yourself, stop down to the dealership and ask for Anthony Polvinale. You can also find more information at SmailMercedesBenz.com.

2017 Mercedes-Benz S550 Convertible Cabriolet - Smail Ride Along | First Drive | Road Test

Take a first drive in a 2017 Mercedes-Benz S550 Cabriolet with Bud Smail Motorcars sales representative Scott Powell.

Scott is the lucky one who gets to test drive this vehicle, "the first S-class convertible made by Mercedes-Benz since the "Hangover" car!" he excitedly proclaims.

As soon as Scott sits in the car, he demonstrates the "seat belt presenters." When the door closes, the seat belt moves to a more comfortable to reach position. And he shows that the convertible soft top comes with the same interior headliner as you would find in the sedan. "That just shows you the extra level of quality that Mercedes-Benz puts into building this car," says Scott.

One of the cool features of the convertible, is that you can put the top up or down when the car is moving, as long as you're under 30 mph. You can see demonstrations of that in the video.

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz S550 Cabriolet has pretty much the same powertrain as its sedan counterpart, with a 4.7L, V8 Biturbo engine, with 449 horsepower. But it also has the new 9 speed G-TRONIC transmission. "And you can tell it's fast," smiles Scott as he steps his foot on the accelerator.

Scott also shows off the upgraded interior of this specific S550 Cabriolet, with it's saddle brown leather seats and designo® Black Piano Lacquer Flowing Lines Wood trim.

One of the more interesting features of this S550 Cabriolet is the "air scarf," a fan that blows warm air on your neck for when you're driving with the top down in cooler weather. Combine that feature with the heated seats, and this car is certainly an all-weather convertible.

Another standard feature of the car is the Burmester® Premium Sound System. It also includes the two 12.3 inch screens on the dashboard for all your controls and navigation. There's also features like magic vision control, AIRCAP with Wind Deflector, LED lighting, soft-close doors, PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist.

"This is the finest luxury convertible you can find," summarizes Scott. "You can spend more money, but you're not going to find a better car."
